when was jeremiah was a bullfrog written? aparently it was used for a childrens tv show! Which one ? who exactly has recorded it over the years and yes i know i’m sad
The song was written by Hoyt Axton in the early 70’s and made popular by the band Three Dog Night.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_to_the_World_(Hoyt_Axton_song)

The only song that i can recall with those lyric in it was a song from the 1960’s/70’s called Joy To The World. And jeremiah was a bull frog was the opening line. It was a hit for 3 dog night. And if it is the same song, I am not sure if it was ever used for a childrens tv show.

Hoyt Axton wrote “Joy to the World” but I could not find the exact date it was created.Since Three Dog Night had a hit with it in 1971, my best guess is that Hoyt penned it around that time.

Apparently it was written on or before 1971 but never recorded until Three Dog Night did on their Naturally album.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joy_to_the_World_%28Hoyt_Axton_song%29superseventies.com/1971_1singles.html

Great religion-based question. As with all religion-based questions, the answer must be “We really don’t know.”

I’m so glad somebody asked this question – under whatever category because I am going mad with singing it all the time and not knowing what I am singing – its on an advert for children’s t.v. – and I even like the advert – colourful and happy, not like a lot of things these days.

Who wrote ‘Joy to the world’?
The scripture-based words are by Isaac Watts. The music was adapted and arranged by Lowell Mason from an older melody which was then believed to have originated from Handel; not least because the theme of the refrain (And heaven and nature sing) appears in the orchestra opening and accompaniment of the recitative Comfort Ye from Handel’s Messiah, and the first four notes match the beginning of the choruses Lift up your heads and Glory to God from the same oratorio
Isaac Watts or Hoyt Axton, depending on which version you’re referring to.

“Joy to the World” is a song written by Hoyt Axton, and made famous by the band Three Dog Night. The song is also popularly known by its incipit, “Jeremiah was a bullfrog”. The words are nonsensical. Axton wanted to convince his record producers to record a new melody he had written and the producers asked him to sing any words to the tune.Three Dog Night’s version went to number one on the pop music charts in February 1971, and was on the band’s album Naturally. It was also released on their albums Around the World With Three Dog Night (1973), Joy to the World: Their Greatest Hits (1974), The Best of 3 Dog Night (1982), and Celebrate: The Three Dog Night Story, 1965-1975 (1993). Three Dog Night never really wanted to record the song but they needed one last track for their Naturally album. The group had been on an overseas tour when that album was released and were greatly surprised to hear that the song they didn’t want to record ended up being a big hit.

‘Joy to the world by three dog night’ is that a 70’s song?? who is Hoyt Axton?
That’s a 70’s song, yes, and Hoyt Axton wrote that for Three Dog Night, amongst others. Axton also wrote “Never Been to Spain.”

Yes it is. Hoyt Axton wrote it, 3 Dog Night made it famous. Remember, “Jeremiah was a bullfrog”? That’s the song.

Yes, Joy To The World was a 70’s song.I looked up Hoyt Axton – First rising to prominence as a songwriter, Hoyt Axton carved out successful careers as a singer and actor as well; rooted equally in country, folk and pop, his gravelly baritone and wry, earthy songs projected an uncommon wit, warmth, and optimism, yielding a consistently engaging body of work extending across four decades. Axton was born March 25, 1938 in Duncan, OK, the son of a naval officer and his English teacher wife. Raised primarily in Jacksonville, FL, he studied classical piano as a child before switching to guitar, writing his first songs at 15. Despite the musical impact of his mother, Mae Boren Axton — the co-author of Elvis Presley’s landmark 1956 chart-topper “Heartbreak Hotel” — he initially pursued a career in athletics, attending Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship before serving a stint in the navy. From there Axton relocated to San Francisco, performing at local folk clubs and in 1962 writing his first hit, the Kingston Trio’s “Greenback Dollar.” Later that year he issued his first album, The Balladeer, a live effort recorded at the Hollywood nightspot the Troubadour; a concurrent appearance on the television western Bonanza also launched his acting career.
