I Want To Know What Love Is-Tom Cruise,Malin Akerman Rock Of Ages 2012

How did the tradition of putting lights on your house for Christmas start? I have always wondered why we put lights on our houses at Christmas time. I wanna know who started the trend and why and when did people start doing it, and what is it’s significance?

The first known electrically illuminated Christmas tree was the creation of Edward H. Johnson, an associate of inventor Thomas Edison. While he was vice president of the Edison Electric Light Company, a predecessor of today’s Con Edison electric utility, he had Christmas tree light bulbs especially made for him. He proudly displayed his Christmas tree, which was hand-wired with 80 red, white and blue electric indandescent light bulbs the size of walnuts, on December 22, 1882 at his home on Fifth Avenue in New York City. Local newspapers ignored the story, seeing it as a publicity stunt. However, it was published by a Detroit newspaper reporter, and Johnson has become widely regarded as the Father of Electric Christmas Tree Lights. By 1900, businesses started stringing up Christmas lights behind their windows. Christmas lights were too expensive for the average person; as such, electric Christmas lights did not become the majority replacement for candles until 1930.In 1895, U.S. President Grover Cleveland proudly sponsored the first electrically lit Christmas tree in the White House. It was a huge specimen, featuring more than a hundred multicolored lights. The first commercially produced Christmas tree lamps were manufactured in strings of multiples of eight sockets by the General Electric Co. of Harrison, New Jersey. Each socket took a miniature two-candela carbon-filament lamp. From that point on, electrically illuminated Christmas trees, but only indoors, grew with mounting enthusiasm in the United States and elsewhere. San Diego in 1904 and New York City in 1912 were the first recorded instances of the use of Christmas lights outside. McAdenville North Carolina claims to have been the first in 1956. The Library of Congress credits the town for inventing “the tradition of decorating evergreen trees with Christmas lights dates back to 1956 when the McAdenville Men’s Club conceived of the idea of decorating a few trees around the McAdenville Community Center.” However, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree has had “lights” since 1931, but did not have real electric lights until 1956. Furthermore, Philadelphia’s Christmas Light Show and Disney’s Christmas Tree also began in 1956. Though General Electric sponsored community lighting competitions during the 1920s, it would take until the mid 1950s for the use of such lights to be adopted by average households.Over a period of time, strings of Christmas lights found their way into use in places other than Christmas trees. Soon, strings of lights adorned mantles and doorways inside homes, and ran along the rafters, roof lines, and porch railings of homes and businesses. In recent times, many city skyscrapers are decorated with long mostly-vertical strings of a common theme, and are activated simultaneously in Grand Illumination ceremonies.

Which political party in Australia stands for the seperation of church and state? I wanna know who I’m voting for. I don’t want tax payers money going to those religious freaks.
The Secular Party of Australia. While many other political parties may make the claim that they stand for, or have policies regarding the separation of church and state, the Secular Party of Australia is the only political party to make this notion part of their main party platform. In the words of Thomas Jefferson, “In every country and in every age the priest has been hostile to liberty. He is always in alliance with the despot.”

Is it possible to teach yourself how to do the splits? I dunno why, but I just really wanna know how to do the splits! It looks so cool! So does anyone know how to teach yourself how to do the splits? My friend learned how to do the splits (she’s in dance) and she said it took her 3 years to do. Then I asked her how she learned and she said that she just stretched but I still don’t understand! Can someone please explain how to teach yourself how to do the splits in detail?
Read this – the rest of the site is also has good information.cmcrossroads.com/bradapp/docs.

Yes it is possible. By stretching out regulary in the morning every day. Stretch out anyway you can to widen and strtch your legs. It took me about a month its easy if you are commited to it.

There’s nothing to learn, you just have to be flexible.Start stretching and continue to stretch until you are able to do a complete split. It could take three years or it could take three months, or anywhere in between there. It depends on how flexible you already are, how often you stretch and how determined you are.

It is hard at first but if you do it every day for 1 year you will accomplish it it took me 1 year to accoplish it you have to be consitent though and young. below 18 young.

Why do you need someone to teach you how to do the splits LOL. whats their to teach do the splits and go lower and lower and take in the pain. And WTF 3 years i did it in 2 years . ( might be because i take karate now) anywho splits helps you ALOT on kicks you will have higher kicks and will be able to hold it for long

If all she did was “just stretched” then no wonder it took her 3 years! It is very possible to teach yourself to do splits, and if you do it right it should only take a few months.Ok you’re getting a lot of the “just stretch lol” answers that I always warn about. Your best bet is to educate yourself. Read “Stretching Scientifically” by Thomas Kurz. If you follow his advice verbatim, you can have it in a few months. It depends on your age as well, as young, fully grown adults may be able to get splits and other static flexibility stretches down faster than children. Even though children are more flexible, adults have isometric stretching available to them.Isometric stretching is the fastest (safe) way of achieving static flexibility. For splits, start by generally strengthening your legs by holding horse stance. In horse stance, you want to put your feet twice shoulder-width apart, and bend at the knees. Your thighs should be parallel to the floor, and your feet should be parallel to each other. You will probably have to tilt your pelvis forward, but don’t tilt your entire back forward. When you can hold this position comfortably for a couple of minutes, you are ready for isometric stretching. In this kind of stretching, you squeeze the ground with your feet. Lower yourself from this position until you cannot go anymore. These same principles apply for the front splits, except you point one foot to the side in the horse stance and look in its direction. In relaxed stretching, you get into a stretched position, such as a split. Hold it for a while, and very slowly lower yourself down. The key word here is relaxed. The upside of isometric stretching is that it builds both strength and flexibility at the same time and is therefore faster. The downside is that your bones must have stopped growing, and you can only do it 2-4 times a week due to fatigue. The upside of relaxed stretching is that you can do it pretty much whenever you’d like and its not as complicated as isometric stretching. The downside is that its slow and you will have to do separate strength exercises, such as adductor flyes.
