Sondheim “Have I Got a Girl for You” Original Cast Boston Live “Company” Alternate Version

“Have I Got a Girl For You” recorded live in Boston during Stephen Sondheim’s “Company” preview run, a very good audience tape I cleaned fairly extensively. …

What would be a good monologue and short song? I need a one-two minute monologue. I am going to audition for my school play “Hello Dolly” and I want to be Minnie. She is ditsy and a total blonde, if you know what I mean. The monologue has to be from a published play, which makes it hard to find a good one. I also need to sing part of a song, preferably from a musical. Can anybody please help?

i cant name a good monologue but a good song would be Take Me To The World by Stephen Sondheim. if you type it in google it shows up.Dont pick something from a musical or play everyone knows because it is likely other people will sing that or do that monologue and you want to stand out. dont do a dirty monologue. directors hate that. and in ur audition wear something bright so they will remember you. like wear a bright scarf. if you get call backs wear the same scarf because then they will be like “oh remember the girl in the scarf” that helps them remember you and that is what you want.i hope this helps.

Good female audition songs for a high alto? I’m preparing songs for my auditions for colleges and I’ve hit a snag. I need a full song, preferably upbeat , and in an alto-ish range. Any input would help, I just need ideas so I can keep searching for the song that will get me in. Thanks!
This is a tricky question without knowing what programs you are auditioning for, or what the specific requirements are at the college(s) at which you plan to audition. It SOUNDS like you are looking for musical theatre, in which case I recommend two books as a great starting place – First Book of Broadway Solos: with CD – for Mezzo-Soprano (part I and II) published by Hal Leonard Book I has these good upbeat mezzo/alto pieces 3. “A Cock-eyed Optimist” by Rodgers and Hammerstein from South Pacific *** 5. “Falling In Love With Love” from The Boys From Syracuse *** 7. “I Enjoy Being A Girl” by Rodgers and Hammerstein from Flower Drum Song *** 10. “In My Own Little Corner” by Rodgers and Hammerstein from Cinderella *** 18. “What’s The Use Of Wond’rin’” by Rodgers and Hammerstein from Carousel *** 19. “Where Or When” from Babes In Arms *** 20. “A Wonderful Guy” by Rodgers and Hammerstein from South Pacific ***Book II includes 3 additional pieces you might consider. 6. “I Cain’t Say No” *** 15. “Matchmaker” *** 19. “Stepsisters’ Lament” ***You can probably find Youtube clips for most of these to get an idea. For college auditions, you are safest singing with a “legit” voice (more classical) rather than belting. If you ARE a great belter and you get to perform two pieces, then choose something that shows off that side of your voice as a contrast. The Broadway Belter’s Songbook (also by Hal Leonard) is a good place to start – These are pieces that I think also make good belt auditions songs IF you have a good belt voice. 1. “And All That Jazz” by Kander and Ebb from Chicaco in 2. “Broadway Baby” by Sondheim, Stephen from Follies in 5. “Don’t Rain On My Parade” by from Funny Girl in 13. “I’d Give My Life For You” by from Miss Saigon in 20. “Losing My Mind” by Sondheim, Stephen from Follies in (if you have solid low F) 25. “Rose’s Turn” by from Gypsy in 27. “What Did I Have That I Don’t Have?” by from On A Clear Day You Can See Forever in 29. “When You’re Good To Mama” by from Chicago inHope this helps!
