Frédéric Chopin – Prelude No. 20 In C Minor, Op. 28 “Funeral March”
Frédéric Chopin’s twentieth preludium, performed on a 2006 Charles R. Walter 43 3/8 cherry console piano with the 48 1/4 bass string. This piece was given the epithet “funeral march” by Hans von Bulow after the composer’s death, and, though it was written in Common or 4/4 time, it bears a dotted quaver polyrhythm that is reminiscent of a march of death. This preludium also showcases one of the great wonders of the Walter piano, the bass response. Even though the cabinet is only 43 3/8 tall, these Walters all bear a much deeper keybed, longer, grand sized keys, and a significantly longer set of bass strings – all of which facilitate deeper, rounder, grander timbre like that of a larger Steinway upright. Sooo…it is a dream to play! I hope you enjoy my version of the song.
